Doctors trained outside of Australia and New Zealand (especially those from North America, UK and South Africa) are also often eligible for these positions under the Area of Need scheme.
RMO (Junior) Positions
There is high demand throughout Australia for junior doctors for emergency (ED) from PGY2+ (two years+ post grad). Previous ED experience is not essential for some of these positions. Vacancies are usually for 3+ months and pay $70 - 80 per hour with $80-100+ for short-term and last minute locums. There is also demand for junior doctors to do general ward work. Coastal NSW ED Vacancies
We currently have ED vacancies in 3 coastal Base Hospitals $80 ph day, up to $110 night rates. These are our most popular locum positions for junior doctors looking for some time on the beach, some ED experience, or just some time out from the career rat race. Being base hospitals, you are well supported and not expected to work above your skill level. We can often place couples or groups of friends in one hospital. Accommodation usually provided, flights from Sydney or Brisbane always provided. Trans-Tasman flights and registration costs are sometimes paid for NZ trained doctors depending on length of contract.
Coastal NSW Oncology Vacancy
No oncology experience required, available for up to 3 months. $90 per hour, Mon-Friday 8-5.
Coastal NSW Psych Vacancy
No psych experience required, available for 2 months. $90-95 per hour.
NSW ‘Bush’ Positions
We always have vacancies in multiple inland hospitals for doctors wanting a taste of the Outback. For junior doctors these positions are typically longer term (3 months) but short term vacancies are also sometimes available. ED is the area of highest demand but there are often ward jobs available in inland NSW.
Sydney ED Positions
We usually have short term vacancies in outer Sydney suburbs for junior doctors ranging from single shifts to a few weeks at a time. Pay rates $80-120. Accommodation is sometimes provided. Longer term positions are usually only available at standard award rates rather than locum rates.
ED Positions In Other States
We can usually place junior doctors in ED or ward work positions in Queensland at a pay rate slightly less than NSW. Longer term positions in Queensland are typically on standard award rates rather than locum rates. WA and NT have some well paying junior doctor positions which are typically in fairly remote hospitals.
Registrar/CMO (Career Medical Officer) Positions
There is high demand for doctors from PGY4 on (three years+ post grad). The highest demand is for emergency department doctors. Doctors with 1-2 years ED experience are paid $80-100 for long term positions and $100 to $180+ for short term. Similar rates are offered for Intensive Care positions. There is also fairly high demand for PGY4 doctors with Psychiatry experience. Long term psych positions typically pay $85-90 in NSW and less in other states. NSW Coastal Emergency Medicine
We currently have high paying short term vacancies in two district hospitals for up to one week at a time. These pay $150 per hour, in charge position with full specialist back up on call. We also have longer term positions in well supported base hospitals paying $90 per hour.
NSW Psychiatry
There is high demand for Psychiatric CMO doctors. For these positions you will have done at least one 3 month term of Psych, preferably 6. Positions are currently available in coastal NSW hospitals $95 ph. Positions are also available in inland NSW and Queensland.
NSW Medical Registrar/CMO
There is high demand for doctors with Med Reg experience. Pay rates are similar to or slightly less than rates for ED positions.
Queensland and Other States: We currently have vacancies for PGY4 ED doctors in Queensland paying $100 ph for short term and award rates for longer term. We have positions for PGY4 ED doctors in WA paying $1300 per day (must provide own indemnity).
GP Locum and Permanent Positions
There is high demand for GPs for permanent and locum positions in all states of Australia.
Specialist Positions
There is high demand in all states for Australian and NZ trained specialists in all specialties. Pay rates for short term (up to a few months) typically range from $1500-2500 per day. Accommodation and airfares are typically provided for any positions less than 3 months. Longer term positions are also available in most parts of Australia in most specialties.
